The number one thing I wish I had here is a hooded sweatshirt! I live in hoodies when I am in Athens (usually in the comfort of my own home, and in class, but hey, that's where I am when I'm here). It is extremely windy on campus....ALL THE TIME! We are pretty high up in the mountains, and the trade winds from the pacific ocean are coming over the top of the mountain this time of year. A hoodie would be perfect for late nights and also for class. I had one packed, but it was so big and bulky I had to take it out at the last minute. I also wish I had kept in my small track club fleece because it would be useful since it's pretty cool here. Because I am some what of a hoodie connoisseur, I hope to pick one up this weekend in Arenal.
I also wish I had another pair of pajama pants! I had more then one packed, but my dear mother persuaded me to only take one. It's really cold here at night and an extra pair of sleep pants would be a lifesaver. It also isn't very sunny here, the clouds come towering over the mountain all day and night and therefore it does not get very warm. This is actually perfect for hiking though. I usually wear shorts and t shirt and bring my light north face jacket and I never get hot. The clouds also are very misty and while it hasn't really rained while we have been here, it mists all the time!
I am soo glad I threw in another pair of jeans the morning before my departure. That really is all I wear on campus. ( Today is laundry day so I'm also glad I brought this skirt so I can wash everything else). I'm glad I didn't bring Sarah's rei zip pant/short things. I knew I wouldn't wear them, and I've been wearing shorts for all the hikes we have been so, so they only would have taken up space. My trail shoes have been great. They are really comfortable and great for hikes. I also wear my keens a good bit, and I am so glad I brought my boat shoes because I wear them on campus all the time. All in all I think I did a pretty good job packing.
